If you
are going to buy a new car, don't buy it the first time you visit a
dealer. On your first trip pick out a car you like, take it for a
test drive and be absolutely sure that is the vehicle you want to
own. If it is, great! Go home and sleep on it. Leave your name and
number with the dealer and express you are VERY interested in the
car, but you are going to shop around a little. Even if
you are not planning on shopping around, the dealer doesn't have to
know it. Wait about 2 days and see what happens. Chances are, the
dealer will call you to see why you hadn't come back to buy the car
you loved so much. Explain that you have found an equivalent car at
another dealership and that it is about $900 cheaper, so you are
thinking about buying that one instead. In most cases, you will
be offered a greater deal (maybe $1,000 off) the original car you
looked at. Once you hear the dealer is willing to work with you, go
back and finalize the purchase. Two days of waiting just saved you
$1,000!
