Lunch
is often a huge waste of money, especially if you eat at a sit down
restaurant for lunch. By simply packing your lunch, you can save a
ton of cash every year. Here are a couple of examples. Pack a
lunch - Let's say in your lunch, you take 2 sandwiches, a can of soda
and some chips or some fruit. That's a fairly healthy lunch,
especially compared to those greasy burger world burgers. You can
lunch meat for about $5.00 per pound and you can probably get 5
sandwiches per pound (2 lbs per week). Add another $2.00 per week
for buns, $0.50 per day for a soda and $0.50 for a side item.
Total cost for lunch for the week - $17.00.
Fast
food everyday for lunch - Assuming you don't care much about how
healthy your meal is, you can get a super value meal at any fast
food restaurant for about $6.00 in most cases. This will get you a
burger, greasy fries and a soda. Total cost for lunch for the
week - $30.00.
Sit
down lunch everyday - Although you can often get healthier food at a
sit down restaurant for lunch, many times we don't have time to
choose this option. If we do have time, the expense is enough to
break you. Let's say you get a healthy grilled chicken salad. This
price is $6.95 plus your drink is extra, so add another $1.95 for a
soda. Now, you will have to add a tip, so 20% on an $8.90 bill is
$1.78, or a total of $10.68. Total cost for lunch for the
week - $53.40.
Here
are the various annual lunch expenses on our realistic examples
above:
- Packing a lunch - $850 per year ($17 x 50 work weeks)
- Fast
Food Lunches - $1,500 ($30 x 50 work weeks)
- Sit
Down Lunches - $2,670 ($53.40 x 50 work weeks)
By
simply taking your lunch to work, you will have:
Annual
savings of $650 per year vs fast food lunches. Annual savings of
$1,820 per year vs sit down restaurant
lunches. |
