If you love the man's best friend
and can teach them to do what you say, the dog training business
needs you. Dog's are great animals, however many people forget they
are animals. They don't always act how we want them to. They are
pack animal and sometimes act in ways we don't approve of. Few of us
have the knowledge needed to train a dog to act a certain way.As
a dog trainer, you have the fun job of working with animals all day.
You will face new challenges everyday and meet tons of interesting
people. You will not only be training dogs for a living, but you
also will be training the dog owners as well. There are things a dog
owner must do in their home in order for the dog to stay trained
such as keeping the rules the same, awarding the dog for good
behavior, etc.
Start-up costs are minimal since your brain and abilities are how
you make your money. You may want a couple of leashes, collars and a
big bag of doggie treats to help get Sparky to sit. Dog trainers can
earn a hefty fee, up to $75 per hour in some areas. With a few
repeat customers, you can make in excess of $100,000 per year!
Finding clients for this business can be creative as well. We
know of a guy who takes his "well trained" dogs to the park where
other "not well trained" dogs are running around with their owners.
The trainer lets his dog show off, with the tricks, obedience and
"good dog" look his pet displays. He has people come up to him all
the time asking where he had his dog trained. He then explains to
them that he is a dog trainer, and he gets a high sign up rate from
this one trick. You can also advertise in pet stores, at animal
shelters/human societies, groomers and veterinarians. Ask for
referrals and many people will not hesitate to send them your way,
especially if you are good at what you do.
